On the Day of Russian Science, a solemn ceremony for presenting the Vladimir Shukhov Prize for 2023 took place in Belgorod. The prestigious award recognizes the achievements of five scientists from the Belgorod State Technological University named after Shukhov.

Let us recall that the Vladimir Shukhov Prize was established by the regional government in 2017 with the aim of preserving and developing the scientific, technical and production potential of the Belgorod region, stimulating the creation of favorable conditions for new discoveries, creative achievements, intensification of scientific activity and the implementation of significant technical projects.

The nomination “Innovations in Construction: New Materials and Technologies” brought victory to Diana Bondarenko, senior researcher at the Innovative Scientific and Educational Center for Nanostructured Composite Materials. Diana Olegovna focused her scientific research on the development of resource-saving technology for the production of multilayer finishing materials. They are used to produce products intended for external cladding of facades of buildings and structures, and are used to protect building materials and structures against corrosion and increase their architectural expressiveness.

In the category “Innovations in the field of bioengineering and nanotechnology technologies”, second place was taken by the director of the Center for High Technologies of BSTU named after Shukhov, Vyacheslav Sirta. Vyacheslav Viktorovich devoted his scientific activity to the development of technology for producing protective and functional composite coatings using high-speed gas-thermal detonation spraying for cutting elements of machines and thermal equipment for processing agricultural products.

Today, this technology has also found wide application in mechanical engineering and food industry. The innovative result of the development is the creation of high-tech production, which will make it possible to compensate for the emerging shortage of expensive cutting elements and to replace them with imports.

In the nomination “Innovations in modern technologies of industrial energy efficiency and energy saving”, the victory was won by two professors of the Department of Heat Supply and Ventilation of BSTU named after Shukhov, Konstantin Logachev (1st place) and Denis Suslov (2nd place). Konstantin Ivanovich is engaged in research of the scientific and technical foundations of the creation and design of dust-removing ventilation systems with reduced energy intensity.

The scientist developed the theoretical foundations for calculating and designing local exhaust ventilation systems for dusty industries and proposed technical methods for reducing the energy intensity of localized ventilation systems. New technical solutions and calculation methods, obtained under the scientific guidance of Konstantin Logachev, are used in the design of dust removal ventilation systems at the Tsentrogiproruda and Stoilensky Mining concentrator production facilities and are aimed at reducing the negative impact of pollutants on the environment and humans.

Denis Yuryevich Suslov proposed a new gas supply system for residential areas and industrial enterprises based on biomethane and biogas, which includes two gas supply technologies: centralized based on biomethane and decentralized based on biogas. The development of biogas technologies, in addition to gas supply to remote settlements, makes it possible to solve the pressing environmental problem of recycling organic waste from agricultural and processing enterprises, as well as biogas at municipal solid waste landfills.

Another representative of the Department of Heat Supply and Ventilation, Associate Professor Nikita Savvin, became first in the category “Innovative devices and automated systems (robotics).” The key direction of Nikita Yuryevich’s scientific activity was the development of an automated energy-efficient heat exchange process control system based on an intensification plate apparatus with increased coolant turbulization. The developed innovative software and hardware complex is used to supply, regulate or remove heat in the heat and power complex, at oil refineries, food enterprises, in municipal institutions and private households, to optimize heat exchange processes. The implementation of the development can significantly reduce the cost of electricity consumption by 5%, natural gas consumption by 10%.

In total, 10 Belgorod scientists received the Shukhov Prize.
