Russia and the Arab world - a new partnership

Yesterday, with the support of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, a meeting “Russia and the Arab world - a new partnership” was held at Belgorod State Technological University named after V. G. Shukhov. Representatives of embassies and universities of Arab countries, colleagues from relevant Russian organizations took part in it.

As part of the delegation the following representatives came to visit BSTU: Minister Plenipotentiary, Counselor of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic Alaa Din Hamdan; Attache for Culture and Education of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the Russian Federation Dr. Al-Obaidi Nadir Jassim Mohammed; Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Professor Yulia Petrova; co-chairperson of the Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Alexandra Ochirova; President of the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio Valery Ruzin; Hero of the Soviet Union, Lieutenant General, Honored Pilot of Russia Valery Ochirov, Advisor to the Palestine Embassy in the Russian Federation Abedalla Iesa and others.

The visit of the delegation began with the traditional laying of flowers at the monument to Vladimir Shukhov, after which the participants discussed the prospects for cooperation during an informal meeting with a cup of tea.

“Scientific and technological progress is far ahead of the humanitarian one. And our common goal is to raise it to a worthy, high level, since it forms cultural and ethical values that determine a person, his true development, create the link between generations,” said Alexandra Ochirova, Co-Chairperson of the Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.

“I sincerely rejoice at the level of scientific research, the level of education, the strong school and the level of international cooperation at BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov. It's time like never before to unite and strengthen the ties. Recently, the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly held a forum in Kazan entitled "Russia and the Islamic World", and Shukhov's name and his engineering heritage were heard at all levels. We invite the university to become part of the events of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly. On behalf of the Secretary General, I thank you for organizing the meeting, I convey my warmest wishes and hope for effective cooperation,” Professor Yulia Petrova, Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, addressed to the audience.

It is necessary to note that the cooperation of BSTU named after V. G. Shukhov with educational institutions of the Arab countries began in 1993, when students from Morocco came to study at BSTU. Today, representatives of 17 Arab countries are studying at BSTU.

The university is a venue of public diplomacy forums, the third one is scheduled for September. “These are educational events for rapprochement and understanding of our common position,” emphasized Vladimir Polyakov, Vice-Rector for Digital Transformation and Educational Activities of BSTU named after V. G. Shukhov.

According to the President of the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio Valery Ruzin, “Today, more than ever, deformed forms of oppression of the people and national genocide have been exposed in some countries. But justice will prevail, and the world will become a better place”.
