The University Celebrated Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov's Birthday
August 28 was marked with the 171st anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov, whose name the university has proudly borne since 2003. A number of events and activities were dedicated to this event at the university.
BSTU representatives, led by rector Sergei Glagolev, traditionally laid flowers at the monument to the "First Engineer of the Russian Empire". It is noteworthy that it was on the BSTU square in 2001 that the first monument to V. G. Shukhov in the country was built. The author is the Honored Artist of Russia Anatoly Shishkov. The monument reminds us that the country still needs talented engineers and devoted patriots.
The great Russian engineer Vladimir Shukhov was not only a genius in the field of construction, but also a great sports fan. He was involved in running and cycling. Shukhov was convinced that physical exercise helps maintain health and spirit, and he promoted a healthy lifestyle among his colleagues and friends. Therefore, the morning on campus began with a relay race among students and teachers "Shukhov Runs". The participants of the race received not only a boost of energy, but also memorable souvenirs.
The ShukhovQuiz was held live together with the Cultural Region. It was conducted by Mikhail Spirin, Director of the Center for Cultural and Educational Work, and Andrey Naumov, PhD, Head of the Department of Real Estate Expertise and Management, who knows the best about V.G. Shulkov, Director and Organizer of the annual project-educational intensive course "Shukhov School". The quiz participants were able to learn more about the creative legacy and stages of professional activity of the outstanding Russian inventor, whose technical ideas brought worldwide recognition to the Russian engineering school and remain relevant to this day. The most active received prizes for correct answers to questions about Shukhov. The quiz collected more than one hundred thousand views on various platforms.
Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov was a master of cycling, took part in races and even became the champion of Moscow among amateur cyclists. Therefore, the culmination of the festive day was the now traditional bicycle parade around the campus. Lecturers and students made an honorary circle with flags depicting the great engineer from the monument to Shukhov along the central alley. Friendly communication, souvenir photos and badges depicting Shukhov for the participants of the bicycle parade added vivid impressions and positive emotions.
