The great and mighty Russian language

The year 2023 in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States has been declared the Year of the Russian language as the language of interethnic communication. The promotion of the Russian language in the world community is one of the tasks that the Preparatory Faculty for Foreign Citizens and the Department of the Russian Language and Intercultural Communication of the Belarusian State Technical University named after V.G. Shukhov.

One example of this work was the collaboration with the University of Accra (Ghana). In Ghana, many students choose Russian as a foreign language, because knowledge of the Russian language gives them prospects and opportunities in the future, both for themselves personally and for the development of the country as a whole.

For several years, Ghanaian students have been dreaming of getting a language internship at BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov. Competition - about 80 people per place.

Upon their return to Ghana, the students of Shukhov University pass the Russian language exam better than many of those who had an internship in other cities of Russia.

Internship program at BSTU. V.G. Shukhov is diverse: not only Russian grammar, but also the history of Russia, Russian literature, Russian speech etiquette, Russian phraseology. Last year, the program was supplemented with the course "Methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language", as some of the trainees plan to teach Russian in Ghana.

In addition to training sessions, interns are given the opportunity to attend theater and vocal studios that work at the faculty. An extensive excursion program introduces trainees to Belgorod and its sights.

Under the guidance of teachers of the Department of the Russian Language and Intercultural Communication, the interns conduct active scientific work: they publish articles, participate in conferences: “Intercultural Communication in the Modern World” (Belgorod), “Dialogue of Cultures” (Kazan), etc.

Head of the Department of Russian Language and Intercultural Communication E.N. Legochkina noted that such cooperation helps to establish close ties between universities, and foreign students to improve their knowledge of the Russian language, which contributes to the popularization of the Russian language in the world.

“Thanks to all the teachers for introducing us to Russian culture and the history of Russia, opening up the world of Russian literature and creativity for us,” said trainee, future diplomat Mensah Linda.

“There is no racism in Russia, as we were told about it at home, there are very kind and smart people here, we were lucky to study in Belgorod, at BSTU named after  V.G. Shukhov,” said intern Ward Mary.
