A student from Haiti is creating robots at Shukhov Belgorod State Technological University.
Pascal Lance Kerley, a student at the Preparatory Faculty for International Citizens at Belgorod State Technical University named after V.G. Shukhov, arrived in Belgorod from Haiti in November. He is currently studying Russian, physics, and mathematics with a view to study Mechatronics and Robotics program.
Since childhood, Pascal has been fascinated by mechanical engineering and took toy cars apart to understand their operating principles. During his university studies, he continued to study robotics and assemble working models from scrap materials.
The student has created two robots. The first can pour water remotely. The second is equipped with a 360-degree rotating gripper arm, can pick up objects, and place them in a special container on its body. The robot is also equipped with a camera which transmits images to virtual reality headset, a microphone for voice communication, and is able to carry small loads. Both devices are operated by a remote control.
Earlier Pascal created drone prototypes and a robotic arm. He plans to develop unmanned aerial vehicles and stay in Russia after completing his studies.
Besides robotics, the student is interested in space exploration, studies aircraft design and turbine operation, and reads scientific literature in Russian. He also runs a successful video blog.
