Partnership agreements with universities in Arab states
Rector of Belgorod State Technological University (BSTU) named after V.G. Shukhov Sergei Glagolev signed memorandums of cooperation with the heads of universities in Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Indonesia on Wednesday, an Interfax correspondent reports from the signing ceremony in Belgorod.
Cooperation agreements with Nahdatul Ulama University Yogyakarta (Indonesia), Damascus University (Syria), Ajlun National University (ANU, Jordan) and Al-Bayan University of Iraq (Iraq) were concluded on the sidelines of the Third International Forum of Public Diplomacy “Truth and Morality - a Strategic Resource” public diplomacy".
“Despite difficult international events, the university community finds ways to unite and cooperate. Proof of this is today’s agreements, which provide for comprehensive and long-term work both in the field of education and science, and in the field of cultural exchange,” the rector of BSTU Sergey Glagolev explained to Interfax.
He added that one of the priority areas of cooperation between Belgorod University and universities in Arab countries will be Smart Cities technologies.
The President of Damascus University, Mohamad Osama Al-Jabban, in an interview with Interfax, noted that the agreement opens up the opportunity for student-teacher exchange and the creation of new educational programs.
“We especially hope to develop cooperation in the field of high and construction technologies,” said the head of the Syrian university.
In turn, the President of Ajloun National University Feras Ahmad Hamid Hanandeh pointed out the importance of developing joint research in the field of artificial intelligence and improving the quality of life through smart technologies.
“I see common ground with the Belgorod University in the field of building “smart campuses” with the possibility of further spread of these intelligent systems to entire neighborhoods and cities,” emphasized the President of the University of Jordan.
The third international forum “Truth and Morality: a strategic resource of public diplomacy” is being held at BSTU from October 9 to 12. It is attended by 100 representatives of universities from 40 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Forum participants consider the problems of humanitarian modernization in the Eurasian context and the development of innovative methods of cooperation in the fields of science, education, culture and business within the framework of public diplomacy.
The forum is supported by the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Rossotrudnichestvo, the Association of Arab Universities, the Institute of Cultural Diplomacy (UAE), the government of the Belgorod region and leading universities in the region.
Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov is one of 33 flagship universities in the Russian Federation. The university includes 45 departments and ten institutes. Currently, more than 2 thousand foreign students from 70 countries are studying at the university.
