Acting Rector of the Shukhov Belgorod State Technological University, Sergei Glagolev, participated in the 5th Forum of the Rectors' Federation of Russia and Arab Countries as part of the Russian delegation. The meeting was held from December 6 to 8 in Cairo, Egypt, at Helwan University.

At a roundtable discussion, rectors discussed the prospects for Russian-Arab cooperation in higher education. Sergey Glagolev delivered welcoming remarks to the forum participants. The work was structured as panel sessions. The meetings focused on the prospects for Arab-Russian cooperation in aviation and astronautics, including higher education. Participants discussed the creation of a Russian-Arab University Consortium to develop a space observatory.

Artificial intelligence (AI) was another important topic for discussion: forum participants focused on the integration of AI into university curricula, ethical AI and responsible innovation, the role of universities in building inclusive digital societies, and the creation of joint research and innovation ecosystems using AI. Following the forum, six cooperation agreements were signed with universities in the Arab world.

As a reminder, the memorandum establishing the Federation of Russian and Arab Universities was signed on May 16, 2017. The association currently comprises 70 leading universities from the Russian Federation and the Arab world, including BSTU named after Shukhov.
