The Russian Union of Rectors, together with the RAEX agency, are implementing the Question to the Rector project, which meets the rapidly changing conditions for the development of higher education: these are the views of the heads of Russian universities on issues on the current agenda.

— In recent years, the number of students from Africa has been actively growing in Russian universities. Is this dynamic characteristic of your university? For students from which African countries and in which areas of study is the largest increase? Are there any "dynasties" among African students - that is, when the son / daughter of your university graduate comes to study at the university? Can you name your graduates from African countries who have achieved great success in their homeland?

Sergey Glagolev, Rector of BSTU V. G. Shukhova:

— Russia and African countries have a rich history of relations, and education is one of the main aspects of Russian-African cooperation. Every year the number of students from African countries studying at BSTU named after  is actively growing. 

So, for example, in 2021 the share of African students was 17% of the total contingent, while in 2022 it increased to 25% (over 400 people). The largest number of students study from Ghana, Angola, Senegal, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Students come to the university to study both from countries located in the northern part of the continent - Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Sudan, and from the countries of central, western and southern Africa: Nigeria, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Chad, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Angola , Senegal, Zambia and others.

The most popular are economic and engineering specialties, as well as Russian language and culture courses. Among the graduates who have achieved great success are: Ousman Mahamat Ousman is an architect in the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Chad.
