Goodness as a norm of life
The opening of a new educational season was held at Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov within the framework of the educational module "Learning trough Service". The meeting with students, which took place at the Boiling Point of the university, was dedicated to social projects designed to fulfill BSTU mission to develop the region.
As part of the Day of United Actions "Goodness as a Norm of Life", program coordinators Mikhail Spirin, director of the center for cultural and educational work, and Mikhail Ignatov, head of the department of sociology and management, told students how volunteering and academic studies are combined into a powerful tool for personal and professional growth. Students can implement projects by directly interacting with requests from public organizations in the Belgorod Region.
Particular emphasis was placed on integrating volunteer activities into the educational process. Students learned how to defend coursework and final qualification papers in the format of a social project, bringing real benefits to society and simultaneously mastering the curriculum.
BSTU named after Shukhov has successful experience in implementing projects in the format of "Learning through service". Last academic year, university students actively developed and implemented socially significant initiatives, combining the acquisition of professional competencies with solving real problems of the region. Among them are projects in the field of ecology, improvement of the urban environment, assistance to socially vulnerable groups of the population and the development of inclusive education. This experience has proven highly effective in developing not only professional skills but also civic responsibility in future specialists.
Mikhail Ignatov noted: "We talked in detail about motivation and how to combine good deeds with studies. For many, it was a revelation that you can not just write your term paper "in the drawer", but turn it into a real social project and defend it in this format. This is the essence of "Learning through Service" - combining academic knowledge with practical benefits for society."
"Learning through Service" is a unique educational technology that allows students to apply their knowledge in practice, bringing real benefits to society. For the university, this is an opportunity to strengthen the practice-oriented component of educational programs and educate socially responsible leaders," shared Mikhail Spirin.
