From May 22 to May 27, the XIX International Forum-Competition of Students and Young Scientists " Topical Problems of Subsoil Use" under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO was held at the St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II. It was attended by over a thousand delegates from Russia, Iran, China, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, India, as well as African and Latin American states. Among them were representatives of Belgorod State Technological University named after V. G. Shukhov.

The forum included lectures on educational programs of additional competencies "Philosophy of Science", which were delivered by academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences and top managers of flagship domestic companies, and foresight sessions on the strategic development of energy in Russia and the world, as well as excursions to the university's digital, simulator and scientific laboratories.

BSTU named after V. G. Shukhov was introduced by the head of the section "Mining engineering", candidate of technical sciences, associate professor Viktor Dmitrienko and a fourth-year student of the specialty "Mining machines and equipment" Evgeny Sergeev. The competition work "Design of a technological complex for ores concentration and iron ore extraction waste", prepared by Evgeny and classmates and his fellow students as a course project, was highly appreciated and was declared the winner.

“I was amazed by the scale and level of organization of the forum. For me, this was a unique opportunity to speak to an audience of participants from around the world, meet government officials and experts from the academic and business community, find potential partners and share my ideas with young scientists from other countries,” said student Evgeny Sergeev.
